In order to promote the affective experience of music, we must eliminate the notion of the audience
as spectators, and instead be included as participants. This happens naturally on the dance floor, and
in some ways I see my role as similar to that of the DJ.
The difference, however, is that bodies are moved by dance music, whereas my music is largely responsive to the movement of bodies. Even when practitioners are focused entirely on following instruction, they are participating in the creative process – and this alters the conventional dynamic between audience and performer.
